Avant My Thoughts Pop Music CD Review

September 16th, 2008

The exceptionally talented Pop artist Avant has released him CD entitled My Thoughts. I am very confident and happy to announce that I believe Avant fans, and Pop fans alike will be pleased with this one. With the release of My Thoughts Avant’s artistic excellence is on full display as Avant has once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks that could very well be him best work to date.

Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

Pop music fans will recognize some of the well known guests that have been assembled to play along with Avant on several of the tracks. Artists like Steve Huff and Charles Willis just to name a couple.

If you’re a Avant fan this is a CD your collection flat cannot be without. In fact, this is one of those CDs that you don’t even have to be a fan of Avant, or even Pop to know is good. This is just good music. Period.

While the entire album is really very good some of my favorites are track 4 - Let’s Make A Deal, track 7 - I Wanna Know, and track 12 - Why

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - Separated. This is a great track!

Free Country Music Internet Radio

September 16th, 2008

For generations, radio has been a source of information and entertainment. Over the years modern developments have been partnered to match modern trends and needs. With the advent of Internet and computer appliances, most businesses have incorporated functional changes. This holds true even in the case of radio stations that have reinvented their approach towards broadcasting. Country music radio stations no longer serve as a simple medium. To compete with other radio channels, television and Internet sources, free Internet radio has gained popularity. Country music offers a wide variety and it becomes increasingly difficult to classify the different types of classical music. AM and FM country music radio stations previously played a few tracks in a row. Most of these collections had very few classics and listeners had to make do with repeated tracks. This fuelled the need for country music Internet radio.

AM and FM radio no longer dominate as mediums to deliver music. Expansion and development of the satellite and free Internet “radio” has been rapid due to low startup and operating costs. Free Internet radio channels are able to store a large collection of classic country music. For this reason, listeners with diverse country music preferences are able to assess their choices. Numerous free country music Internet radio sources are dedicated to particular genres of country music.

Even though Internet radio evolved over a decade ago, the mechanism is yet to develop to its full potential. Studies reveal that free country music Internet radio sources are a popular choice for younger listeners. Since Internet sources are easy to use, a number of older and retired people have also turned to free country music Internet radio sources. This is because most members of the older generation were a part of the country classic music scene when it was booming.

Rap Music - History and Genres

September 16th, 2008

Those who are young or relatively new to the HipHop culture don’t realize that Rap Music has many different genres:

East Coast: The East Coast, most notably New York City, was the genesis for rap music hitting the mainstream. Run-D.M.C. led the pack, with Rakim and Big Daddy Kane also breaking through to make rap emerge as a national phenomenon.

West Coast: While HipHop was cooking in the East, West Coast rap music gained national recognition in the mid-1980s with performers like Ice T and Too $hort.

Dirty South: While most of the music world’s attention focused on rap coming from New York and Los Angeles, HipHop artists in the South were turning to independent music labels to release their work. Geographically, the Dirty South genre encompassed places as diverse as Houston, Birmingham, and Miami, and was greatly influenced by Ghetto Mafia in the mid-1990s. Musically, Dirty South rap is known for is danceabilty and rhythmic delivery.

Gangsta Rap: Some say Gangsta Rap first emerged on the West Coast with N.W.A.’s “Straight Outta Compton” release, while others credit Ice T with taking Gangsta Rap to national acclaim. Characterized by lyrics glamorizing elements of a criminal lifestyle, violence, promiscuity, misogyny, and materialism, Gangsta Rap’s controversy came to a head with the murder of the West Coast Tupcac Shakur in 1996, and the subsequent murder of the East Coast’s The Notorious B.I.G. in 1997.

Pop Rap: Known for its widespread, mainstream appeal, Pop Rap’s first breakout star was LL Cool J. The Fresh Prince and MC Hammer quickly rose to the top of the Pop Rap scene and the music charts with lyrics that were less controversial than those of the Gangsta Rap genre, and thus were more likely to receive radio airplay.

Christian Rap: While HipHop was garnering a reputation for less than savory lyrics and artists for questionable activities, other artists were expressing their faith through HipHop. Christian Rap took off in the late 1980s and early 1990s with rap groups like P.I.D. and S.F.C.

Jazz Rap: Although Jazz Rap has never enjoyed mainstream commercial success, the genre often incorporates Afrocentric and political themes. Gang Starr and Gil Scott-Heron are often cited as two of the first Jazz rappers.

Conscious HipHop: Similar to Jazz Rap, Conscious HipHop has never enjoyed mass commercial success. With an emphasis on social issues, Conscious HipHop isn’t overtly political, but rather deals with issues such as poverty and religion.

Electro HipHop: A combination of dance music and rap, Electro HipHop first emerged in the 1980s on the West Coast from artists like Arabian Prince and Egyptian Lover. By the mid-1990s, Electro HipHop had pretty much run its course.

A Popular Music Repertoire for the Classical Guitar

September 16th, 2008

Just because you play classical guitar doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself to hundred year old music! There are many modern pop songs that translate very well to the classical guitar.

One of the biggest challenges any classical guitarist faces is that of trying to assemble a repertoire of music that a wide audience will appreciate. After all, the majority of any musician’s audience will be fans of popular music. The classical guitar is capable of interpreting this popular music in a very distinct and pleasant way. Here is a selection of popular pieces that translate well, and sound well, on the classical guitar.

Stairway to Heaven – This is the anthem of a whole generation of rock music and the guitar arrangement by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin is one of the best pieces of guitar music ever written. Don’t let the fact that this is a hard rock band scare you away from this piece of music. It is a stunningly beautiful piece of music.

Vincent – (Starry, Starry, Night) This is a beautiful song written by Don Mclean and it is a great piece for classical guitar. There are many interpretations of this song but I highly recommend you use the arrangement created by Chet Atkins. It is quite possibly the best piece of guitar music ever written.

Blackbird – by the Beatles - This is a perfect piece for a beginner to learn. It has some very unique sliding up and down the fretboard and some great interval playing.

Yesterday – Another piece by the Beatles and arguably one of the most beautiful melodies ever written.

If – by Bread - This is an old song written in the 70’s by a pop group. It has a haunting melody and a great arpeggio style of finger picking that sounds great on the classical guitar. This is a great intermediate level piece.

Your Body is A Wonderland – John Mayer borrows from the art of Flamenco the technique of tapping on the guitar for this song, which makes for some nice acoustic variety in your repertoire. It is a novelty but sounds great.

Unchained Melody – Alex North and Hy Zaret – This is a piece of music that has been performed for over 50 years now and for good reason. It is a beautiful and simple piece that can be quickly learned.

Hotel California – The Eagles - Originally written for the 12-string guitar this song plays extraordinary well on the classical guitar and really expresses that 70’s soft rock feeling.

Time In A Bottle – Jim Croce had a very unique style of playing folk guitar and this style translates well to the classical guitar. This piece is one of his best pieces in that it showcases some really beautiful, and unique, guitar phrasings.

Tears in Heaven – Eric Clapton is hailed as the king of rock and roll guitar and for good reason. He has the ability to play absolutely anything flawlessly. Tears in Heaven is the perfect slow pop piece to showcase how the classical guitar can cross genres into the world of pop music.

The Classical Guitar is an extraordinarily diverse instrument and it can sound good in almost any genre of music but learning a solid repertoire of popular music is something that can enable you to reach and connect with a very wide audience.

Creating a Halloween Music CD of Your Own Can Be Frightfully Fun

September 16th, 2008

It is easy to create your own Halloween music CD! Halloween is a fun and exciting holiday for many individuals. Carving pumpkins, creating an elaborate costume, decorating the home, and getting the candy bowl all ready is just half the fun! Creating spooky sounds on a CD can really enhance the overall mood of the Halloween holiday.

Spooky sounds and music that is considered to be scary can really set the pace when it comes to this night of spooks and haunts! Here, I will share some information with you on how to create your own Halloween music CD.

The first thing that you need to do in order to create the best CD ever for Halloween, is to go online and locate clips and sounds that are offered on numerous websites. There are many stores that specialize in selling these sounds, while other websites offer them for free. In order to brew up a good stew of spooky sounds and music, you will need to dedicate some time to researching the files that you run across.

If you are having a difficult time coming up with some Halloween sounds that you like, there are a couple of websites out there that specialize in this type of music. These include “Classic Halloween Sound Effects”, and even “Halloween Culture Classics”.

Now, you will want to create a playlist in Windows Media Player of the sounds and music that you save to your computer. You can name this “Halloween music CD”, this way it can be easily identified once you are ready to burn the CD of Halloween music.

Now, you will want to be sure that you have the hardware on your computer that is necessary to burn the CD. A basic CD burner is about all that is required if you are using Windows Media Player. If you do not have a burner on your system, you can purchase an external CD/DVD burner at any electronics store for anywhere between $50.00 and $200.00 that will do. External units simply connect to your computer through a USB port.

Now, you will want to determine what type of CD that you need to use to burn the Halloween music. Once you make this determination, purchase the blank media CD and put it in the CD burner. Now, as you look on Windows Media Player, you will see a button that says “Burn”, simply hit this and the playlist will automatically copy to the blank media CD. Once this is done, the CD drive door will open and your Halloween music CD will be ready for you!

Forget The Illegal Stuff - Download Legal Free Music For Ipod Today

September 16th, 2008

If you want to download music for your Ipod, the legal free music is definitely the way to go. Almost everyone I know has an Ipod, and quite a few of them spend hours looking for things on shady P2P sites, and a few of them have even gotten viruses. I’ve told them time and again about the free legal music download sites but they won’t listen. Will you?

For my guide to the best sites to download legal free music for ipod from, please visit http://www.ipodlowdown.com

The benefits of free legal music downloads-1 The main benefit of these legal download sites for your Ipod is that they are legal-you don’t have to worry about getting any scary letters from the government or record labels or whatever. That’s a big bonus in my book.

The benefits of free legal music downloads-2 Choice. When you are looking to download free legal music for Ipod, you can often get everything you need all in one place. Every song you’ve ever wanted, all under one easy to access roof. If you’ve ever downloaded from the illegal P2P sites, you’ll know how much the opposite can be true there. It’s very frustrating to have to search for all different descriptions etc in the hope that someone has uploaded the song you are looking for, especially if you don’t find it. This rarely happens with the legal sites as some of them have over 90 million files. That’s a lot of music!

The benefits of free legal music downloads-3 Speed-a lot of the trustworthy free sites will charge you an admin fee when you first join them. It’s a one off fee, and is put toward their upkeep costs for servers and customer service staff etc. This means they are able to offer download speeds that you can only dream of with most P2P sites. Once you are used to download speeds like that, downloading free music for Ipod the illegal way will seem so slow that it’s not worth bothering with.

The benefits of free legal music downloads-4 Safety. With these sites you don’t have to worry about viruses or some idiot trying to catch you out with spyware. These are professional organisations, so you can be sure that your downloads will be safe and exactly what you were looking for.

Downloading legal free music for Ipod is definitely the way to go. I’m very glad to have my memberships, and I can’t even guess how much I would spent with Itunes if I didn’t have access to all this free stuff.

Click HERE to find out where you can get FREE IPOD DOWNLOADS right now-And it’s not just music either, Music, Movies, Games, Music Videos TV Shows and MUCH more!
